The Surf City Marathon start line is located at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Huntington Street (use 21291 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach for reference).  There are multiple ways to get to the start line – parking lots that are walking distance or parking lots that have shuttle pick-ups to bring you to the start.  You will find driving directions listed first followed by your parking options:

FROM THE NORTH – DRIVING SOUTH on 405
Exit at Beach Blvd
For Main Street paid parking lots: continue on Beach Blvd, turn right onto Atlanta Ave to access Main Street area
For Beach Parking Lots: continue on Beach Blvd to Pacific Coast Highway to enter lot

FROM THE SOUTH – DRIVING NORTH on 405
Exit at Warner Ave
-Turn left on Magnolia Ave or Newland St and travel south to access Beach Parking Lots
-or Turn left on Beach Blvd and travel south to access Beach Parking lots, Drop Off Zone, or Main Street paid parking lots (turn left onto Atlanta Ave)

Exit at Brookhurst Ave
-Travel south to access Beach Parking Lots

FROM THE NORTH – DRIVING SOUTH on PCH
Turn left (inland) at Warner Ave. Follow Warner Ave toward Beach Blvd. Turn right (south toward the beach) and follow Beach Blvd toward the beach

For Main Street paid parking lots: continue on Beach Blvd, turn right onto Atlanta Ave to access Main Street area
For Drop Off Zone: continue on Beach Blvd, drop off zone located at intersection of Beach Blvd and Atlanta Ave
For Beach Parking Lots: continue on Beach Blvd to Pacific Coast Highway to enter lot

FROM THE SOUTH – DRIVING NORTH on PCH
For Main Street paid parking lots: Turn right on Beach Blvd and left on Pacific View Ave to access Main Street area
For Beach Parking Lots: turn left into lots from Pacific Coast Highway at Brookhurst St, Magnolia St, or Newland St

Parking Options

FREE PARKING

Civic Center – The Civic Center parking lot (1900 Main Street, Huntington Beach) is a convenient option away from the closed traffic streets.  A shuttle stop is located at the Civic Center parking lot and will drop off 1-2 blocks from the start/finish line.

Edison High School – Edison High School (24000 Magnolia St, Huntington Beach) is another convenient option away from closed traffic streets.  A shuttle stop is located at Edison High School and will drop off 1-2 blocks from the start/finish line.

Beach Parking Lots – Beach Parking lots are located off of Pacific Coast Highway and can be accessed by heading west via Beach Blvd, Newland St, Magnolia Blvd, or Brookhurst St.  While these lots are generally a walkable distance to the start/finish line, two shuttle stops are located within these lots for those that want transportation closer to the start line.  The first shuttle stop is located within the parking lot near Newland St.  The second shuttle stop is located within the parking lot between Magnolia Blvd and Brookhurst St.  For reference, here is the approximate walking distance to the start/finish line from each entrance:

From Beach Blvd: approximately .5 miles
From Newland St: approximately 1 mile
From Magnolia Blvd: approximately 1.5 miles
From Brookhurst Blvd: approximately 2.25 miles

PAID PARKING

Pacific City – The Pacific City parking lot (21010 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach – access via Pacific View Ave) is likely the most convenient of all parking lots as it is located 1 block from the start/finish line. The hourly parking rate is set by the parking operator, not race officials.

Main Street Promenade – The Main Street Promenade Garage (200 Main St, Huntington Beach) is closest to the Huntington Beach Pier and all the restaurants/shops on Main Street. This lot is just 4-5 blocks from the finish line. The hourly parking rate is set by the parking operator, not race officials.

Strand Parking – The Strand Parking lot (146 6th Street, Huntington Beach) is close to the Huntington Beach Pier and all the restaurants/shops on Main Street. This lot is 6-7 blocks from the finish line. The hourly parking rate is set by the parking operator, not race officials.

We recommend having cash on hand in the event credit cards are not accepted.

NO PARKING

No event parking will be allowed at the following locations. Vehicles will be subject to tow and impound at the expense of the vehicle’s owner:

Beach Promenade Shopping Center – located at the intersection of Beach Blvd and Atlanta Ave
Newland Shopping Center – located on Beach Blvd between Adams and Yorktown Area

There is a specific drop-off area (including Rideshare/Uber/Lyft) set aside at the intersection of Beach Blvd and Atlanta Ave (21229 Beach Blvd). There is no parking available at this intersection but participants will be able to walk approximately 3 blocks down Beach Blvd and then up Pacific Coast Highway toward the start line. The start line is at the intersection of Huntington Street and Pacific Coast Highway.
Pacific Coast Highway will be closed from Warner Ave to Beach Blvd on Sunday, February 3, 2020 from 1:00 AM to 2:00 PM. For information on road closures, please check the Road Closure notification.

Virtual Run

Virtual Race Information

Can’t join us in-person on February 2, 2020? Check out the Virtual Run option.

Included within Virtual Half Marathon and Virtual Marathon registrations:

  • Official Event Bib
  • Official Finisher Shirt
  • Official Finisher Medal

When you sign up for the Virtual Race option, you will need to complete the virtual 13.1-mile race (Half Marathon) or 26.2-mile race (Full marathon) and submit proof through the Virtual Run Submission Link between January 26, 2020, and February 9, 2020.

Race Proof can be:

  • Photo proof of your tracking device showing the date and distance
  • Link to Garmin, MapMyRun, Nikeplus, RunKeeper, Runtastic or Strava tracking

Already signed up but can’t join us on February 2, 2020?

Switch to the Virtual Race! Runners who signed up for the traditional course race can switch to the virtual before February 2, 2020. There is a $10 transfer fee. Beginning January 26th, you can upgrade your half marathon or marathon entry to the virtual run for $10. You can purchase the upgrade through your ACTIVE MyEvents account. Please follow these steps:

  1. Please go to MyEvents.ACTIVE.com/motivsportsus
  2. Scroll down to find the 2020 Surf City Marathon and Half Marathon
  3. Click “Purchase merchandise”
  4. Scroll to find “Virtual Race Upgrade”
  5. Add 1
  6. Scroll down and click Continue
  7. Enter your payment information and finish checkout
  8. You’re all set!

Virtual Race Rules:

  • Your finish time will not be posted on the Results Page.
  • All virtual runs must be completed and submitted by February 9, 2020.
  • Bib, Shirts, and Medals will be mailed to the address listed on the registration form. Items will be shipped no later than February 21, 2020. Please allow 4 weeks after race day to receive your finisher packet.
  • We will mail out outside of the United States for an additional fee. Please email us at runsurfcity@motivsports.com for more details.
  • The Virtual run option will allow you to maintain your loyalty status or maintain your status within the Beach Cities Challenge.
  • Virtual Race Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions.
  • Virtual Race registration is required in order to participate in the program.
